Who's seen it yet? Did you like it? I think it was pretty weak.

Waiting for the initial flurry to die down!

What did you find disappointing? On the whole, I have foudn the films better than the books (mainly because they cut out most of the wibble)..

This one was just too stripped down. There were quite a few deliberate changes, but even more bits that were just never mentioned. I know some of that has to be cut out, but it was bad. For example, no mention is made of: a) quidditch, b) prefects, c) ron and hermione's fights.

Also, the character just seemed too simple. A friend said it best when he said the movie seemed to be directed towards little kids. Perhaps they felt this was the last chance to make a kids movie before things get really dark.

I'll have to reread this one before we go - I remember the awful teacher, and Harry getting special lessons from Snape, and the secret room but little else!

Your last comment is interesting - I thought the last one was pretty dark, with (amongst other things) Digory's death.

Well I just came from the movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. License has to be given when you are paring down 766 pages into a two hour movie.I'm a bit of a perfectionist and some of the adjustments made in the earlier movies really bothered me, but this one I thought on the whole, well done. Even though they didn't put in the Weasley's swamp, I thought the Weasly fireworks caught the spirit of the adventure quite thoroughly and when Sirius fell through the veil and Harry's screams were silenced, it tore me through and through in the way a verbal scream never could. Imagination is so much more powerful when given some loose reign.
I thought on the whole that the acting ability was vastly improved with the obvious maturing of the main characters.
I went with my son who was seeing it for the second time and I can't wait to see it again. He said he got a lot more out of it the second time.
Serious/Sirius Fan.

The lack of "wibble" is what puts me off the films - the plot of the earlier books has never been much above Encyclopedia Brown, but the wit of the asides and the descriptions of magic are what make the books fun. I've always found the films to be quite flat and lifeless.

That said, I'm probably going to cave and watch OOTP. The reviews coming back are so polarised, there's a chance this might be *the* film worth seeing. (Ironic, since it's the book *least* worth reading!)

Sorry for saying this to any Radcliffe fans but, Daniel doesn't act as mad Harry Potter very well. He does well on everything else. But mad Harry Potter. Doesn't work.

i totally agree with #7. the movie was good but it was WAY to fast and didn't capture enough of the details. Where I agree that they only have two hours to do this movie that reflects on 776 pages, they made Umbridge look like an angle compared to the book!

Alexsa33, do you really think they could've found someone as ugly as Umbridge. I don't. It doesn't seem possible. Umbridge is a squat short bow wearing lady who finds great pleasure in torturing. In the books, I imagined her with frizzy grey hair.

I think that a nice (even if not good looking) person in an (again) nice if not good looking attire like movie Umbridge is scarier than a ugly and bad dressed one... just think about Filch (or even Snape), he is scary, but you quite expect him to be bad, Umbridge, could have easily been a nice teacher (ok, maybe even a boring one obsessed with the form and not the substance of her subject) instead of an evil one... but she is hardly working at being evil, it's not just a "soul disposition".
I was thinking about not going to see HP5 as i thought i was going to throw something at her during the movie :-)
