| Why do you like the Harry Potter books? | | |

| qthews | Nov 4, 2007 2:04am | First of all take note that many of the book that are similar to the Harry Potter ones aren't available in italian so i've never heard of them so some things are new to me... that said some things that hooked me are:
- magic in a modern setting
- an entire society based on it
- details, even if JKR didn't tell us everything she give us a lot of little funny and/or interesting details
- the characters, there are characters you'll love to love and other one you'll love to hate
- a modern fantasy book without a map in the first pages of the book... but with one IN it :-)
- some more reason that i can't rationalize at the moment

|  Sponsor | ericthehamster | Nov 4, 2007 2:39am | I probably bought them for my daughter because I had been brought up on these sort of themes - fairy stories generally, Tolkien, CS Lewis, Alan Garner, Carol Kendall, George MacDonald, to name but a few.
JKR is merely continuing this tradition (and dare I say, not the best written, but has done something right to capture the imagination of a generation). |
